Safaricom’s former Chief Executive Officer Michael Joseph has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive following the death of Bob Collymore.
The decision was made by the directors of the company in a Special Board Meeting on the 1st of July.
According to Investopedia…
“An interim CEO is a person appointed by a company’s board of directors to assume the role of chief executive officer during a time of transition or as the result of the sudden departure of the company’s previous CEO…”
Joseph, who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Kenya Airways, served as the first CEO of Safaricom from July 2000 to November 2010 before Collymore took over.
He will act as CEO of the telecommunications firm until the board finds a permanent appointee to take up the position.
“The Board is confident that during the transition, Mr. Joseph will provide the necessary guidance and leadership to the company and its employees,” reads a statement signed by the telco’s Company Secretary, Kathryne Maundu.
